Workshop - Next steps with WordPress

Essential tips on how to make the most of your WordPress site, this course will show you how to add more functionality to your website. You’ll learn more advanced formatting techniques including adding dynamic content, how to use widgets to spice up your sidebar and the basics of working with Plugins.

By the end of the day you’ll be confident in creating and maintaining your own professional looking website. Learners on this course will be provided with a website free of charge for 6 months.

Who is this workshop for?

Suitable for people who have completed our Intro to WordPress workshop, or have a WordPress website with basic content prepared and an understand of creating new pages and posts.

These opportunities are only available to Manchester City residents (not Greater Manchester), aged 18+. You can find out your local council here. Attendees will need basic computer and digital skills.

In this seminar, we’ll walk you through everything you need to establish yourself online and create your own ‘brand guidelines’.

We’ll look at establishing a mission, vision and personality, understanding your audience, appropriate tone and language, through to the importance of developing a unique visual style, strapline and logo.

In this seminar we’ll explore the basics of search engine optimisation (SEO). When used effectively SEO makes you easier to find on the web, vastly increasing your website traffic and brand awareness.

Create your first website using WordPress, learn about the differences between pages and posts, and add content to your new site. This course will take you through the foundations of WordPress, and throughout the session you'll set up your own basic website with the ability to add and format content, upload images, edit menus, and adjust basic settings.

By the end of the day you’ll have a solid foundation for starting a website in the right way, with long lasting structure and best practice techniques. Learners on this course will be provided with a website free of charge for 6 months.
